The exact combat rules
Here is what changes when you attack, block, eat or throw a pearl. Use it to prepare your gear before a duel.
Fast swords, paced weapons
Swords and axes have a fast attack pace, but Mining Fatigue can slow their attacks. Maces, tridents and spears retain their delay between hits, without an added recharge when equipped. Faster clicks remove neither this recharge nor your target's brief damage immunity.
Equipping a spear
Drawing a spear does not restart its recharge. After every left-click jab, including a miss, the recharge before the next jab or enchanted lunge remains roughly 4 seconds. Mining Fatigue can lengthen this delay. Changing items or mining does not affect this recharge. Right-click use keeps its modern behavior.
Mace: at most 5 hearts per hit
- The mace remains usable
- When you hit another player, you cannot remove more than 5 hearts per hit, including the falling smash bonus
- The cap applies after armour, Resistance and Protection and includes absorption hearts
- A hit can therefore deal less damage
- This limit does not apply to mobs
- Drawing it does not restart its recharge: only the time since your last mace hit counts
- The mace uses its usual crafting recipe
No sweep attack
Area damage on swords is removed. There is no sweep arc, no sound for it, and no damage to nearby targets. Each hit lands on one target.
Sprint critical hits
With a classic weapon, you can land a critical hit while sprinting. You must be falling, off the ground, off ladders, out of water, not blinded and not riding. Maces, tridents and spears retain their modern conditions: sprinting prevents their critical hits.
The W-Tap
A hit while sprinting stops your sprint and knocks your target farther back. Restart your sprint between hits to keep up the pressure: that is the W-Tap.
Hunger and healing
- Walking, swimming, jumping, sprinting, attacking and taking hits use up your food reserves
- A sprint jump costs four times as much as a jump without sprinting
- With at least nine full food icons, you regain half a heart roughly every 4 seconds
- Healing also uses food reserves; filling your saturation does not give you modern Minecraft's rapid healing. Modern weapons retain their own food costs and wear. The Hunger effect keeps its modern rules
Golden apples and pearls
- Golden apple: Regeneration II for 5 seconds and Absorption I for 2 minutes, with no additional cooldown between regular apples
- Enchanted golden apple: Regeneration V for 30 seconds, Resistance I and Fire Resistance I for 5 minutes, Absorption I for 2 minutes. Wait 3 minutes before eating another; you can eat a regular golden apple during that cooldown. Always finish the eating animation
- Crafting: eight gold blocks around an apple for the enchanted version
- Ender pearl: wait 8 seconds before another throw. Its trajectory and impacts remain those of Minecraft 26.2
Swords, axes and projectiles
Wood, gold, stone, iron and diamond swords and tools use their 1.7.10 damage values. An axe deals one point less than a sword of the same material, or half a heart before protection. Other materials retain their own balance. Fishing rods, snowballs, eggs and pearls keep their usual Minecraft 26.2 behavior.
Standard weapon damage
Total damage before armour, effects, enchantments and critical hits. One point is half a heart. Later materials and ScandiCraft equipment keep their own stats.
| Material | Sword | Axe | Pickaxe | Shovel | Hoe |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wood and gold | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 |
| Stone | 6 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 1 |
| Iron | 7 | 6 | 5 | 4 | 1 |
| Diamond | 8 | 7 | 6 | 5 | 1 |
Boost yourself with your bow
- Punch: with a Punch I or II bow, your own arrow can propel you when it hits you; Punch II gives a stronger push
- Technique: shoot ahead with a low draw, then move to catch your arrow. Timing, angle and movement matter: each shot does not guarantee a boost
- Bows: standard and scandium bows share the old trajectory; the scandium bow keeps its own damage and durability
- Damage: the boost requires an accepted hit. Your arrow can also hurt you, so watch your health and surroundings
- Combat: hitting yourself does not start or extend your combat tag
Strength, Weakness and equipment
Strength I adds 1.5 damage points and Strength II adds 3, before protection: half of modern Minecraft's bonus. Strength III and above keep the modern bonus. Weakness removes 4 points. Sharpness, armour protection and durability keep modern Minecraft's rules. One damage point equals half a heart.
Potions: modern rules
Drinkable, splash and lingering potions retain Minecraft 26.2 effects, durations and behavior. Check the item in game for its duration.
Brewing stands, chorus and fire
- Brewing stand :open it to refill its fuel automatically; blaze powder is not needed as fuel
- Chorus fruit :you can eat it, but it no longer teleports you
- Fire :ignition and damage follow Minecraft 26.2 rules
After you connect
For 3 seconds after connecting, you cannot deal attack damage. Do not rely on that delay as protection to escape a fight.
Elytra, fireworks and happy ghasts
Firework rockets no longer boost an elytra: you glide, with no boost. In combat, the elytra is blocked and your flight stops at once. Happy ghasts cannot be ridden, even out of combat: they would give free flight. A message tells you every time an action is refused.
Visual and audio feedback
For classic weapons, melee feedback is limited to critical-hit and enchanted-hit particles, as in 1.7.10. No attack sound or damage-indicator particles; your target's hurt sound stays. Modern weapons keep their own feedback.
The off-hand is closed
You cannot place or use an item in the off-hand. If an item ends up there, it returns to your inventory when space is available. With a full inventory, it remains visible and you can withdraw it; it is never dropped automatically. A shield remains usable in the main hand.
No knockback resistance
No armour in the game reduces knockback, netherite included. Nobody becomes hard to push around because they wear the most expensive gear: positioning stays a skill.
| Material | Durability | Armour points | Toughness | Enchantability | Knockback res. |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DiamondStandard Minecraft | ×33 | 20 | 2 | 10 | 0 |
| Lazurite | ×35 | 20 | 2.5 | 12 | 0 |
| NetheriteStandard Minecraft | ×37 | 20 | 3 | 15 | 0 |
| Pyrite | ×39 | 20 | 3.5 | 17 | 0 |
| Scandium | ×41 | 20 | 4 | 18 | 0 |
Modern poses and passages
Combat rules bring back the 1.7.10 rhythm, while your poses and passage clearance keep modern behaviour: you can crouch under a low ceiling and crawl through narrow passages. These options keep their modern movement limits.
Classic combat with modern choices
Equipping a spear, a mace or a trident does not restart its recharge between hits. Classic weapons keep their pace, sprint criticals, knockback and sword guard; bows regain their old trajectory. Mining Fatigue retains its slowdown. Shields keep modern mechanics and their configured damage reduction; maces, tridents and spears retain their mechanics. Fishing rods, other projectiles, potions, fire, falls, armour, Weakness, Sharpness and poses remain modern; Strength is weakened. Pearls keep an 8-second cooldown and enchanted golden apples a 3-minute cooldown.
Frequently asked
Is there a clicks-per-second limit?
Normal, jitter, butterfly and manual drag clicking are allowed, without an arbitrary CPS cap. Macros and automated clicks are forbidden. Faster clicks do not guarantee more damage.
Does the sprint-jump-crit really work?
Yes with classic weapons, when critical-hit conditions are met: falling, off the ground, off ladders and out of water, without blindness or a mount. Maces, tridents and spears retain their modern conditions.
Why don't I hear anything when I hit?
Classic weapon attack sounds are removed, as in 1.7.10. Your target's hurt sound stays audible. Modern weapons retain their own sounds.
Can I put a totem or food in my off-hand?
No. If an item ends up there, it returns to your inventory when space is available. Otherwise it stays visible and you can withdraw it, without an automatic drop.
How do I heal during a fight?
Keep at least nine full food icons to regain half a heart roughly every 4 seconds. Golden apples and potions help you stay in the fight too.
