# The Minecraft PvP/Faction glossary

The terms you will meet on ScandiCraft and on any PvP/Faction server.

- One definition per term, no technical jargon.
- These are the words actually used in game and on Discord.
- Four are enough for your first session: faction, claim, base and gear.

## The words of the group

Faction, claim, base, enemy: everything that describes your clan and its territory. This is the vocabulary you will use most.

## The words of combat

Gear, combo, sprint reset, block-hit, combat tag: the vocabulary of fights. It comes straight from Minecraft PvP culture.

## The words of progression

Farm, sidegrade, season, auction house: what describes the things you build over time, alone and with your faction.

## Every term, A to Z

- **Auction house** — The place where players list items for sale at the price they choose.
- **Base** — A faction's headquarters: chests, farms, defences. The place you protect first.
- **Block-hit** — Alternate sword attacks and blocking: release your guard to hit, then block again.
- **Chunk** — A square plot of the Minecraft world, 16 × 16 blocks. It is the unit used to claim land.
- **Claim** — A plot held by a faction. Inside it, others cannot break blocks or loot chests.
- **Combat tag** — The mark applied as soon as a PvP exchange starts. It blocks the ways of escaping by command, teleport or elytra.
- **Combo** — A chain of hits that keeps your opponent from striking back.
- **CPS** — Clicks per second. Clicking fast is allowed; automating your clicks is not.
- **Farm** — Gathering one resource in quantity. Also the installation built to do it.
- **Faction** — A clan of players with a base, a chat, roles and enemies.
- **Gear** — Your full combat kit. Gearing up is what you do before heading out.
- **God apple** — The enchanted golden apple. It grants healing and protection effects; wait 3 minutes before eating another.
- **Lazurite, Pyrite, Scandium** — The three ScandiCraft-exclusive ores, from the most accessible to the rarest.
- **Power** — A faction's territorial budget. It decides how many claims it can protect.
- **PvP** — Player versus Player: fights between players.
- **Raid** — An organised attack on another faction's base.
- **Safezone** — An area where combat is disabled, typically around spawn.
- **Sidegrade** — Gear that is not better than the previous tier, just different: other strengths, other weaknesses.
- **Spawn** — The arrival point on the server. On ScandiCraft it is a protected area.
- **Sprint reset** — Restart your sprint between hits to benefit from the extra knockback of a sprinting attack.
- **Warzone** — A dedicated combat area where faction claims do not apply.
- **Wilderness** — Unclaimed land. Everything that does not belong to a faction yet.

## Frequently asked questions about the vocabulary

**Why are so many terms in English?**

PvP/Factions was born on English-speaking servers in the early 2010s. The words stuck, including on French-speaking servers.

**Do I need to know all of this to play?**

No. Faction, claim, base and gear are enough for your first session. The rest comes on its own.

**Where do I ask if a word is missing?**

On the ScandiCraft Discord. It is also where you find a faction that is recruiting.
