# Faction ranking: score, ELO and rules

Every season, factions are ranked on three things: the fights they win, the territory they hold and their power. Here is exactly how the score is calculated.

- Score = ELO + territory × 5 + power × 3 (default season values).
- Every faction starts the season at 1,000 ELO, and everything resets next season.
- Only fights between two rival factions count, with protection against farming.
- The website ranking refreshes roughly every five minutes.

## Who gets ranked

Every player-created faction enters the ranking. Peaceful factions and the server's permanent factions are not ranked. A faction disbanded during the season loses its place.

## How the score is calculated

- `ELO` — your fight rating, counted as is
- `Territory` — each claimed chunk is worth 5 points
- `Power` — each point of faction power is worth 3 points
- `Rounding` — the total is rounded to the nearest whole number

## A score example

A faction with 1,020 ELO, 12 territories and 8 power scores 1,020 + 12 × 5 + 8 × 3 = 1,104 points. Careful: power can go negative after several deaths, and then it lowers the score. The weights are fixed for the whole season and shown on the ranking page.

## How ELO changes

Every faction starts at 1,000 ELO. When a member kills a player from a rival faction, their faction takes ELO from the other: what one gains, the other loses. The gain depends on the rating gap: beating a higher-rated faction earns more, beating a weaker one earns little.

## What a fight is worth

- `Equal ratings` — +12 for the winner, -12 for the loser
- `Winner 200 ELO below` — +18
- `Winner 200 ELO above` — +6

## Fights that don't count

- `No faction` — the killer or the victim has no faction
- `Same faction` — two members of the same faction
- `Allies and truce` — the factions are allied or in a truce at the time of the kill
- `Ineligible faction` — a peaceful or permanent faction is involved
- `Repeat` — the same player already killed the same victim in the last 30 minutes
- `Outside season` — the fight happened before the season started or after it ended

## Breaking ties

On equal score, the faction with more ELO ranks higher. If still tied, territory is compared, then power, then age: the faction created first wins.

## When the ranking updates

- `ELO` — after every counted fight
- `Power, territory and members` — sampled roughly every 5 minutes
- `Website` — refreshed roughly every 5 minutes
- `Rank change` — compared with the previous day's ranking
- `In game` — the /classement command shows the current ranking

## End of the season

The end of a season is announced in advance. After it ends, the ranking stays provisional for 48 hours to include late fights, then becomes final. Past seasons remain available as archives, with their final top 10 and scores.

## Ranking FAQ

**Why didn't my kill change the ELO?**

It is probably one of the fights that don't count: same faction, allies, truce, ineligible faction, or the same victim killed twice within 30 minutes. A faction's details on the ranking page list its recent fights with the reason.

**Is it better to claim or to fight?**

Both count. A territory is worth 5 points and a fight between evenly rated factions is worth 12: a faction that holds a lot of land and wins its fights quickly takes the lead.

**Does dying lower the score?**

Yes, twice: your faction loses ELO if the fight counts, and your death costs power, which also weighs on the score.

**Does my ranking carry over to the next season?**

No. Every season restarts all factions at 1,000 ELO. A season's final ranking stays visible in the archives.
