# Seasons: why the server starts over

On a PvP/Faction server, a map that never restarts ends up frozen: the same factions hold the same land, and joining halfway is pointless. Seasons exist to prevent that.

- A season has a start, objectives, a ranking and an end.
- Every season writes a chapter of the Book of ScandiCraft.
- Past dominance guarantees nothing: every season reshuffles the map.

## A shared start

Everyone restarts on the same map at the same moment. That is the best time to join, including with no PvP/Faction experience at all.

## A ranking and an ending

Performance is measured throughout the season. A season concludes; it does not drag on forever.

Every season leaves a trace: its theme and the community videos join the Book of ScandiCraft, which has told the server's story since June 2014.

## Frequently asked questions about seasons

**How long does a season last?**

The start date is announced in advance. The end date is not: a season ends when the way the game has evolved calls for it, and the reset is announced before it happens.

**Do I lose everything when the season changes?**

The map and the competition restart. What carries over — cosmetics, statuses, rewards — is announced before each reset.

**Do I have to play from day one?**

It is the most exciting moment, because everyone starts together. But a season is designed so a faction can also get going later.
